WHY WOMEN EMPOWERMENT?

Over the past decade, gender equality has been increasingly recognized as essential not only for the well-being of nations but also for their social and economic progress. Promoting gender equality and women's empowerment is a key objective of the UNDP’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This involves ensuring equal rights, opportunities, and access to resources, enabling women to make independent choices and take control of their lives.

Empowered women drive economic growth, social advancement, and sustainable development. They actively participate in decision-making, education, healthcare, and leadership roles, contributing to a more inclusive and progressive society. Women’s empowerment fosters diversity, amplifies their voices, and ensures their talents and potential are fully realized. It is a critical step toward building a more equitable and harmonious world for all.

WHAT WE DO?

Smile Foundation’s women empowerment program, Swabhiman, launched in 2005, is dedicated to uplifting marginalized and socially excluded women through interventions in nutrition, healthcare, and livelihood. The program empowers women by equipping them with knowledge, skills, and resources to access healthcare and drive sustainable change within their communities.

Beyond individual empowerment, Swabhiman fosters a gender-equal society by actively engaging men and boys in the process of women’s empowerment. Through innovative community practices, the program enables women to become aware, skilled, and financially independent, creating a lasting impact on their lives and the society around them.
